Episode #1

The Sustainability Umbrella

In our first episode, we go big. We cover an overview of sustainability and how it affects our community. Sitting down with a few game changers at the University of Iowa, we discuss the sustainability scenario in Iowa.

Our conversation starts with Dr. David Cwiertny, associate professor in
the Civil and Environmental Engineering department, director of the Center for Health Effects of Environmental Contamination and director of the Environmental Policy Research Program at Public Policy Center. Dave shared some important aspects of sustainability and its connection to politics.

We then talk to Dr. Craig Just, an associate professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. Craig leads community-driven projects, building up a resilient Iowa in resource-constrained communities.

To wrap up, we talk with Blake Rupe, the Sustainable Water Development Graduate Program Coordinator and Program Manager of the University of Iowa’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment. Blake touches on the many aspects of sustainability and how Iowa is in the forefront of sustainability.
